Introduction: Assessing a New Manufacturing Opportunity in the UAE
Engagement snapshot box:
Duration of the Project: 8 weeks
Stakeholder interviews: 14
Market: UAE
In 2025, Accurate Middle East Research and Consulting conducted a comprehensive market research and feasibility study for a biodegradable cups and cutlery production line. The project was assigned by a local investment group looking to assess the market potential for biodegradable solutions in the UAE. The company’s marketing team had already conducted some high-level research and identified that the market was actively developing across the Gulf region, particularly in the UAE. Based on this initial information, they assumed that there could be a good opportunity for local manufacturing.

However, market growth alone was not enough to justify the investment. Before committing capital, setting up manufacturing operations and starting the search for clients and partners, the group’s management wanted to conduct a professional feasibility study to understand the actual demand, required product characteristics, customer needs and existing gaps in the market.
The main question was whether there was enough commercially viable demand for a new manufacturer in the UAE and, if yes, what products, customers and market-entry approach should be prioritised. Another important assumption we had to test was whether there was room in the market for the new production technology the investor was considering bringing to the UAE. The project was led by Ruslan Yusupov, Senior Researcher at Accurate Middle East, with 13+ years of industrial market research experience across the UAE, Middle East and Africa, including oil & gas, petrochemicals and financial modelling.
Step 1: Market Overview and Product Research
Accurate Middle East started the project by mapping the key research areas and, in parallel, collecting initial market facts and insights and identifying the main market segments and competitors through desk research.
This stage helped us understand the current stage and estimated volume of the market, identify direct and indirect competitors, and see what types of manufacturers, suppliers and products were already present in the UAE. It also allowed us to develop the first assumptions that would later be validated through primary research.
At this stage, we collected and analysed initial information on:
- GCC and UAE market size and key market drivers
- Market growth and major trends
- Common product ranges and specifications
- Key market players, including consumers, manufacturers, importers and suppliers
- Market regulations and key limitations
- Government initiatives and programmes affecting the sector
- Existing alternatives to biodegradable cups and cutlery
- Initial pricing and supply-chain structure
The desk research gave us the starting point, but it was not sufficient to make an investment decision. We still had to validate the findings with local market experts, senior industry representatives, vendors, traders and potential buyers.
Step 2: Customer and Buyer Profiles
During the second phase of the research, we developed a comprehensive customer segmentation and demand matrix based on our initial assumptions.
We then conducted 14 stakeholder interviews as part of the primary market analysis, including potential clients, market experts, wholesalers, traders and other industry participants.
Respondents included potential clients, market experts, wholesalers, traders and other industry participants.
The purpose was not only to confirm whether demand existed. We needed to understand what customers were actually buying, in what volumes, at what prices, what problems they had with their current suppliers and what would make them consider working with a new UAE manufacturer.
The interviews helped us validate:
- Key products currently in demand
- Industries and customer segments with the strongest potential
- Indicative purchasing volumes and frequency
- Preferred product characteristics and specifications
- Average market pricing and acceptable price ranges
- Existing supplier profiles and their weaknesses
- Customer journey and purchasing process
- Main supplier-selection criteriaPreferred commercial terms and conditions
- Market gaps and unmet customer needs
- Potential opportunities for a new local supplier
This phase was particularly important for the feasibility study because it gave us several of the key commercial inputs required for the financial model: potential order volumes, product mix, achievable prices and customer purchasing patterns.
By the end of this research phase, we had also identified where there appeared to be a market gap. The next question was whether this opportunity matched the client’s proposed manufacturing capacity, technology, investment level and financial expectations.
Step 3: Competitor Analysis and Price Intelligence
After the initial desk research, Accurate Middle East conducted a more detailed competitor and pricing assessment.

We collected information on competitors’ product ranges, indicative prices, market positioning, distribution approaches and supplier relationships. The research also included consultations with experienced industry professionals familiar with the UAE market, including professionals with previous experience in relevant companies.
This helped us better understand how the market worked in practice and validate assumptions around pricing, volumes, market concentration and the position of the main suppliers.
An important part of this stage was not simply identifying who the competitors were. We needed to understand where a new UAE manufacturer could realistically compete and whether the proposed technology offered a meaningful advantage from the customer’s perspective.
Step 4: Manufacturing and Financial Feasibility
After collecting and validating the necessary market data, we moved to the financial model and final feasibility assessment.
The market research findings were used as inputs into the model rather than relying only on theoretical assumptions. Expected demand, achievable pricing, potential sales volumes and product mix were assessed against the proposed manufacturing capacity, investment requirements and operating assumptions.
This allowed us to test whether the identified market opportunity could translate into a financially viable manufacturing business.
The final feasibility report in the UAE brought the market and financial analysis together and provided the client with an action roadmap and recommendations. It also identified the main risks and the KPIs that management would need to monitor if the investment moved forward.
What the Study Helped the Investor Decide
The purpose of the project was not simply to produce a market report. Every stage of the research was designed to support the investment decision.
By combining desk research, primary interviews, customer analysis, competitor intelligence and financial modelling, the investor was able to assess:
- Whether sufficient addressable demand existed for the proposed manufacturing operation
- Which products and customer segments should be prioritised
- What pricing and sales-volume assumptions could realistically be used in the financial model
- Whether the proposed production technology could create a meaningful market advantage
- Which market gaps could potentially be addressed by a new UAE manufacturer
- What commercial and competitive risks needed to be considered before investment
- What market-entry approach would be required if the project proceeded
For a manufacturing feasibility study, this connection between market demand and financial viability is critical. A growing market does not automatically mean that a new manufacturing investment will be commercially successful.
Following the study, the business owner and the investor moved forward with the manufacturing partnership — the validated demand and financial model gave both sides the confidence to sign.
